Just ran across this article documenting the restoration of more mosaics
at the Hagia Sophia. It is so heartening to see work continue to preserve these treasures. The seraphim face (shown in the inset) was recently uncovered after 160 years beneath 7 layers of plaster, applied during the reign of the Ottomans. The mosaic is estimated to be at least 700 years old!
