First of all, from Westminster Cathedral in London. This is an interesting collection of mosaics. The cathedral looks terribly old, but was built in the very late 19th century and opened to the public in 1903. There are gorgeous mosaics that are from the early 20th century, and they continue to add to them. The most recently completed one is by Christopher Hobbs circa 2006 and there are plans for more.

OK, so now that I’m home and the exhaustion is beginning to pass, it’s time to get back to work. I was invited to be a part of an artist’s group that is just forming in NE Tennessee. This group is conceived mainly as a support group for the artists in it, helping each other to navigate the difficulties of the business side of art, and encouraging each other in our artistic goals.
This sounded like a good idea from the beginning, but after attending the first get together today, I am actually quite excited about it. One of the artists is someone I already knew, one I had met briefly once before, and two others are new acquaintances. Although the goals are serious and there is a sense of seriousness about what we want to accomplish, this feels like a light-hearted and wonderful group. We spent some time trying to determine what to call the group, and settled on Women of the Palette. Of course, we thought we might have a dilemma if a man was interested in joining. Then we laughed and laughed.
We’ll be meeting monthly and looking for opportunities to show our work, and ways to enrich our community at the same time. I feel it in my bones – this is going to be a very good thing.
